Mindful Mirth

Celebrations and Mindfulness for Cognitive Improvement

Hello Friends,

Last weekend my partner and I had a celebratory dinner and I finished it off with some delicious keto peanut butter cups. I spend a lot of time in ketosis, especially when I am coaching in one of my Marama at Home PLUS courses. I do the program right along with everyone. You can get the homemade keto peanut butter cup recipe for yourself here at Marama’s website.

Research paper published

I’m so excited right now. On top of wrapping up the third Reversing Alzheimer’s summit, my paper is officially published! The print version will be published in August, but you can read it online: Observed Improvement in Cognition During a Personalized Lifestyle Intervention in People with Cognitive Decline.

Meditation for your mind

Lifestyle and stress management were a big component of the study. Participants were encouraged to engage in mindfulness practices, including daily meditation or prayer. Daily Kirtan Kriya meditation was recommended, and I recommend some type of mindfulness, prayer or meditation practice for everyone daily. In a study done by Dharma Singh Khalsa, 12 minutes of Kirtan Kriya was shown to improve memory. You can read about that here: Khalsa DS ((2015) ) Stress, meditation, and Alzheimer’s disease prevention: Where the evidence stands J Alzheimers Dis 48: , 1–12. If you’d like to give it a try, here is a guided video of what we use at Marama. I personally wake up and meditate daily for at least 20 min. I also enjoy Tara Brach’s guided meditations.

Warmly,
Dr. Heather Sandison
