Last weekend at the Marama Open House in California, I had to take a moment to step back and let it all sink in. I’m grateful to have met so many people in person and physically walk them through everything we do at Marama. It was so much fun to get a visit from a previous resident as well. I am grateful that the facility is open and has been a home to so many on the road to reversal of cognitive decline issues.
Our grand opening was March 2020 and we managed to stay open throughout the pandemic restrictions as a safe and healthy place for our first residents. Over three and a half years later, our home is filling and our newest residents started moving in this month.
I recently heard from one of our original residents who improved during her time at Marama. She has continued to see improvement even after moving out of Marama. The lifestyle habits created at Marama stuck with her and she increased her MOCA score by another 2 points.
I’ve been so focused on the open house, I haven’t fully explained how the Marama Experience is available in Kansas as well. I partnered with the award-winning Axiom Healthcare to open the Clear Mind Center in Wichita, Kansas in the spring. For an in-depth conversation about the facility, here’s an interview I recorded with Chance Becnel, CEO of Axiom Healthcare Services, for the Clear Mind Center Grand Opening. My dream is to have many locations utilizing the Marama Experience and see a shift in memory care facilities to be high quality homes where people improve instead of decline. This partnership to create the Clear Mind Center is the first step towards achieving that goal. I always like to direct you to the latest research in these emails. In order to reiterate that the methods behind the Marama Experience are evidence-based, I offer my recently published paper and the published paper for Dr. Dale Bredesen’s ReCode protocol, both highlight the practices used at Marama and Clear Mind Center.
I’m honored to be a part of so many people’s path to reversing cognitive decline. I look forward to seeing more Marama Experience facilities as the future of cognitive care residence homes and more residents move in, can then move out, and continue to improve.
Warmly,
Dr. Heather Sandison
P.S. – If you are a caregiver and want to learn about and get support to implement the same Marama techniques, I offer an 11-module Marama at Home course that you can take fully online.
